A new study shows that vets are the most profitable small business category in Britain – with very few overheads and animal lovers willing to ‘pay what it takes’, they are receiving a dog-squealing 37% return on capital.

Pet owners will see their vet for the usual vaccinations, and routine check ups; but increasingly for more complex surgery and therapies. In the past, owners would not consider spending thousands of pounds on chemotherapy or surgery and would opt for euthanasia as the last resort; but with the increase in affordable pet insurance, pet owners are able to allow these options to be implemented to prolong the life of their beloved pets.

The company that released this revealing data, trawled returns to Companies House and found that Vets beat every other business category, including plumbers, lawyers and financial advisers!

However, we must remember that vets undergo long and expensive training – but does that mean that they can charge the prices that they do?
