 Should a poorly pet mean you should take time off work? Figures suggest that UK companies loose around £20m because people take time off work for looking after their pet.

Unless you work in a pet shop where you are surrounded by pets, or work at home where you can be with your pet all day long, it can be difficult to provide effective care for your pet when he/she becomes ill. As a result, employers are aware that some owners will take sick leave to cover them when caring for a pet. However, some companies do allow workers to work from home or even give owners compassionate leave during times when their pet is ill.

Research suggests that pet owners live longer, are happier and healthier and more alert – so aren’t they better workers too?
