Support Dogs, a UK charity, has transformed the life of Hannah Baker a young woman from Dedham Essex. Hannah has severe epilepsy that is brought on by a non-malignant tumour diagnosed when she was six years old. When Hannah is about to suffer a seizure small changes occur to her pupils and skin tone. Her poodle Milo has been trained to spot these changes and then stares at her alerting her that something this wrong. -
-
Before Milos arrival Hannah would suffer up to 80 seizures a day, but now these have reduced to around 10, and most of these are small. When alerted, Hannah would position herself seated on the floor against a wall to ensure she is out of danger. Milo will stay with her until she is well. - Support Dogs is a UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with epilepsy and people with disabilities by training dogs to act as efficient and safe assistants. Support Dogs trains dogs to assist and support their owners with their specific disability. Each dog is taught tasks tailored to his owner's needs, enabling the disabled person to lead a fuller and more independent life. Each dog costs around £10,000 to train and support for life.
