Child eczema linked to cats |

 A new study suggests that parents could be putting their newborn child at risk of developing eczema if they own a cat and allow the cat near the baby. However, they also found that infants were not put at any additional risk.

Eczema is a skin condition that results in dry, itchy and painful red blotches appearing on the skin during times when the skin is exposed to allergens. The authors of the report suggest that a combination of an inherited defective gene and exposure to a cat can increase the chances of the child from developing eczema.

Eczema has been on the rise in recent years and yet still very little is really known about the on the onset of the condition. However, other reports contradict the findings of this study – suggesting that early contact with pets can actually reduce the childs’ response to allergens and they develop a natural immunity. Furthermore, other studies suggest that exposure to dogs does not affect a child’s chances of having eczema.
