There have been numerous reports of big cats in the press lately. A pensioner in Telford woke up to the sight of 3 inch wide paw prints on his car bonnet and numerous sightings of large cats in North Wales, and the South of England have been reported. But do these beasts exist and why are the reports on the rise?

Various sightings of big cats have been noted over the years. Reporters often sensationalise the real facts - and often these sightings turn out to be merely a large feral cat rather than a celebrity’s pet panther that has escaped from its plush home. But experts are suggesting that with warmer environments and a plethora of readily available food in the form of hedgehogs, rabbits and the increase of chicken ownership in the UK, wild cats are gorging them selves and growing to larger sizes than in the past. So, expect a few more wild stories to come.
