 Bagpuss is still the nation's favourite children's TV animal of all time, according to a new survey by CBeebies Animals magazine. The saggy cloth cat, which made its TV debut in 1974, is more popular than modern favourites like Shaun the Sheep.

Cartoon classic heroes Tom and Jerry took second place, followed by Winnie the Pooh. The Magic Roundabout's animals such as Dougal the dog and Dylan the rabbit are fourth, followed by cartoon hero DangerMouse.
