How many of dog owners clean up our dogs waste when we’re out and about with them? The My Pet Friends team hope the answer is all of us. But, there is still visible evidence across the country of irresponsible dog owners who can’t be bothered to keep our parks, grass verges and pavements free from unsightly dog waste. -
Dog faeces are not only unsightly; they also pose medical risks to people if left lying around. Many people are also unaware that the fine for not cleaning up after your dog is £500 and on the spot penalties start at £50. - Pet owners in Jersey have been given free dog waster bags in an attempt to overcome the dog fouling problem. Similar schemes are being set up in places such as the Aberdeenshire village of Hatton. “Doggy bags” are being distributed to pet owners across the village. The bags include scoopers, leaflets, badges and biscuits; encouraging dog owners to get into the habit of cleaning up after their dog. Villagers have welcomed this innovative idea to reducing the problem, suggesting that they have made a big improvement since they began distributing them. - Take a look at your local council’s web site or contact them to find out if there is a similar scheme in your local area. If not, who not ask for some support from your local authority and set one up. Only registered users can write comments. |
