All dogs (and their owners) love a good walk in the countryside – running through the undergrowth and chasing squirrels is a lovely way to pass the time on a sunny afternoon – but there are many dangers that dog owners need to pay particular attention to, to ensure their dogs are safe. - Unless you live in the countryside, the environment may at first glance appear to be very safe, but there are many dangers and hazards that you need to watch out for. Our pet tips and care guide should help you to look out for these and prevent any serious injuries. - Kitty & Teddy’s Pet Care Guide to Avoid Countryside Hazards • Keep your dog on a lead when walking them in places that are unfamiliar to you – there may be hidden rabbit holes, cliff edges and concealed roads, rivers or lakes. • Avoid areas where sheep or cattle have grazed as these areas are likely to house ticks and mites. Skin infections are more prone during autumn. The harvest mite larvae is common in many parts of the country and may not only cause irritation to your pet, they can spread blood-borne diseases. Discuss ticks and mites prevention with your vet who will be able to advise you about lotions and treatments that you can use to reduce the risks. ![]() • Watch out for litter such as broken bottles, tins and plastic which can cut or ensnare your dog • Ensure your dog is away from poisonous plants such as corn crockle, deadly nightshade and hellebore; autumn fungi can also emit spores if disturbed that your dog could inhale and result in breathing problems. • Clean up after your dog – pooper scoopers can be purchased from all pet shops and online pet shops, but a carrier bag also does the same job. • After every walk, check your dog for any problems or injuries – look for wounds, ticks (especially under their armpits, in folds of skin and ears) and for prickly grass seeds that may have become attached to their fur. - - ![]() - Add as favourites (0) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 319
