The weather has been terrible and so guess what - we we're talking about it again. We make no apologies for our blog beginning to sound more like a weather forecast, but it is an important issue and what with reports about global warming and the catastrophic effects that this may have for the world are worrying and worthy of attention. - On a more individual level, the weather does have serious implications for pet owners and their pets as the weather affects our health and well being too. Just like humans, scientists have now discovered that pets can suffer from SAD too. SAD (seasonal affected disorder) basically describes feeling down or depressed during the winter months; but as the weather has felt more autumnal than of summer of late, Teddy and I have been experiencing our own winter blues – in the middle of August!! - The lack of daylight and general poor weather has meant that we've been cooped up inside. Instead of being out and about as we usually are at this time of year, we've just snuggled up in our beds, our owners’ beds, their washing basket - basically anywhere that's snug and cozy. But its not all as great as it sounds, with all this rain that we’re having poor Teddy has returned from walks covered in mud and dirt. To most dogs this wouldn’t be a problem, but it’s quite noticeable on Teddy’s white fur and because he has an allergy to dirt and dust, our owners have to wash him more often than usual. You’d think he’d be OK with baths and water by now, but he still kicks and fights to get out of the bath. - The whole situation is quite depressing for both us and our owners - and we’re sorry to say that it doesn’t look like its going to get any better. In fact, we feel like our summer has been stolen from us, and unlike humans who can easily escape to foreign climes to get away from it all and soak up the sun, we aren't able to because of pet quarantine rules (a bit if retail therapy in the many online pet shops helps us get over some of the blues). Evidence suggests that the cost of cheap travel has had something to do with global warming and the resulting erratic weather of late - it’s just a pity that this poor weather may actually prompt more people to travel by plane and therefore further exacerbate the problem. It’s a vicious circle.- So, we just sit and wait for brighter days - I chase the rain dripping down the window pane and Teddy howls at the wind whistling through the trees. Keep your fingers crossed for a brighter September (I’m having deja vue, I’m sure we asked for better weather back in July?) - - ![]() Add as favourites (0) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 254
