Pets in the news this week - or not. PDF Print E-mail

Chihuahua “Tinkerbell” was pictured in the news in a tearful re-union with her owner Paris Hilton who was released from jail earlier this week. Celebrity hotel heiress Paris Hilton was jailed after being found guilty of violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction. She endured a three week stay, leaving Tinkerbel in the care of her staff.
-
Although the press reported Paris’ tears, I am sure poor Tinkerbell missed the company of her owner. Despite being looked after by a team of staff in the luxury mansion, pets know when their owner is away and thus Tinkerbell must have endured some stress and anxiety during Paris’ period away from home.
-
If Tinkerbell could read, she may have real reason to worry and assume that she had been ditched. In 2005, Paris was forced to give up one of her many pet ownership fads – a kinkajou named “Baby Luv” that she picked up on a trip to Florida, after the California Department for Fish and Game declared it an illegal pet (although there are rumours that the forcible removal never occurred because a Kinkajou is not classed as a monkey).
-
The talk in the My Pet Friends office all week is the way Paris treats her pets as fashion objects – buying them without doing any proper research about the care and attention that is required to look after them. It’s just a good job she has money to ensure that someone else is there to properly train and care for them.
-
Other pets in the news – or rather not in the news – are the now former Prime Minister, Tony Blair’s pets. Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair and his family departed number 10 Downing Street today, and no word of their pet goldfish has been heard. Kitty and I are not ones to gossip, but have Tony and Cherie left them for new tenant Gordon Brown?
-
Oh well, as long as cost conscious Gordon doesn’t decide to include them in his cuts as new Prime Minister. He wouldn’t though, would he?
-
See you soon, My Pet Friends.
