To mark its 18th year, National Pet Month’s (NPM) theme will be ‘Love is ... ’ The month will run from 7th April 2007 to 7th May 2007 and culminate in a special ‘Wet Nose Day’ on 24th April 2007 – a national day to celebrate pets and encourage people to get involved and raise valuable funds.

So in a sense this is our month – and I expect extra special treatment by the My Pet Friends team. I think I’ll be requesting extra walks, treats, hair brushing and belly tickling. But it’s during times like this that I think about less fortunate pets across the UK. Despite the UK population being known for their love of pets, many pets are still neglected and abused. National pet month will raise awareness of pet health needs and also highlight the plight of less fortunate pets.

If you want to help less fortunate pets you can make a difference by making a donation to the many pet charities across the UK. Take a look at the pet directory for more information about pet charities that you can donate a few spare pounds to. A couple of pounds a month may be just the cost of a cup of coffee to you, but to a pet in need it could mean the difference between life and death.
