Happy Diwali to pet owners across the UK. If you’re celebrating with fireworks we hope you have a safe and enjoyable one. - Our neighbours will be celebrating, so we’re preparing ourselves for the fireworks display. Spectacular and beautiful as it is, we just can’t get on with fireworks. But what exactly is Diwali and why are fireworks used to celebrate the event? - Diwali is the festival of lights and is celebrated by the Hindu and Sikh community in the UK, India and all over the world. During Diwali people celebrate with their friends and family. They give gifts and share home-cooked meals. People give Diwali gifts which represent joy and happiness. - The history of Diwali is rich in legends from the stories of Hindu religious scriptures. It focuses on the story of Rama and Sita and as with all legends point to the classic truth of the victory of the good over evil. At Diwali, the festival of lights, lamps are a symbol for the lamp of knowledge within all of us, which conquers evil. And this is where fireworks come in, they are used to light up the sky and banish evil. - It’s a fantastic event and one of the most important events in the Hindu or Sikh Calendar. Hindu and Sikh communities are well known for their compassion towards animals. This is due to their belief in reincarnation – a belief that when you die you are reborn in the form of an animal. Indeed, many of the Hindu gods take on the form of animals or a combination of them, and the cow (considered holy by Hindus) is often kept as a pet in India. - Makes we think, what would life be like if cats and dogs were considered holy in the UK? - Until next time – woof, My Pet Friends. - ![]() Add as favourites (0) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 128
