- Research from Petplan insurance shows that owners consider a vet their friend -
-
Despite dogs traditionally being considered ‘man’s best friend’, it would appear that for pet lovers, your best friend is actually your vet. New research from Petplan, the UK’s biggest pet insurer, shows that a quarter of owners would call their vet a ‘good friend’. Like police, doctors and fire-fighters, these results suggest that vets could actually be the unofficial 4th emergency service in times of dire need.
-
With Petplan receiving an average of over 10,000 claims each week; 11 million British households owning at least one pet and a further 62 per cent of owners being registered to a veterinary practice, vets are busier than ever before and are fast becoming pet owner’s new best friends. Further research from Petplan, shows that 42 per cent of owners refer to their vet by their first name and a 47 per cent have his/her mobile saved on their speed dial. And whilst vets aren’t normally considered to be sexy; bizarrely 9 per cent of us have admitted to having a crush on their vet.

-
Sue Kilby, Welfare Representative on the BHS Scotland Committee, explains: “A heavy fall of snow can change the configuration of tree lines and woods and hungry, curious equines will snatch at any foliage that comes within reach.

As we all should know by now, a pet is for life, and not just for Christmas. Many owners unfortunately do not realize this basic fact of pet ownership, and fail to see that the cute little kitten or puppy they hold in their hands will one day grow up to the more akin to a Cujo or Digsby than a Scrappy-Doo or Pongo.
-
With this in mind, there are a few basic questions you should ask yourself before making a long-term commitment to pet ownership, which Healthy Pets Insurance have listed below for your consideration…

New horse accidents website sets out to save lives |

Tuesday, 30 November 2010 |
The British Horse Society has launched a dedicated horse accidents website designed to provide statistics and data which will be used to lobby the Government for better riding conditions.
-
The website, www.horseaccidents.org.uk, is to provide anyone involved in an equine-related incident with an easily accessible method of reporting it. Currently, an equestrian-related road incident may go unrecorded unless a human is injured and taken to hospital for treatment from the scene of the accident, therefore statistics are poor.
-
Initially, the website will record road traffic incidents concerning ridden and driven horses, incidents involving low flying aircraft, road surface dressings, dangerous dogs, fireworks, wind turbines, and issues with gates. There is provision to add other concerns as they are identified.

Taking your pet to work with you |

As pet lovers, we like to be able to spend as much time as possible with our loved ones. For some lucky owners, this can include taking their pet into work with them. The benefits of doing this are numerous, and not only will you be able to look after them during your working hours, but they will also benefit from being in a more sociable environment than they would I they were left alone at home by themselves.
-
Another benefit of bringing your pet into work – and by pet we are talking on the whole about a dog – is the therapeutic affect they have on stress levels. Dogs are a great stress reducer and both you and your fellow workers will appreciate just what great companions they can be when the going gets tough. It is scientifically proved that dogs can reduce blood pressure and the risk of worry about meeting deadlines for projects and your workload, making you more productive and a happier worker.
