A new study suggests that parents could be putting their newborn child at risk of developing eczema if they own a cat and allow the cat near the baby. However, they also found that infants were not put at any additional risk.

A pensioner in Telford woke up to the sight of 3 inch wide paw prints on his car bonnet and numerous sightings of large cats in North Wales, and the South of England have been reported. According to research from insurance company More th>n, around 400,000 workers a year claim they can't go into work because their pet is sick. And this rises in the summer when workers want to make the most of the good weather.

Training for dog owners, not just dogs

There have been calls for changes to the current laws on dog ownership as the number of dog attacks increase in the UK. According to the RSPCA, dog attacks were up by nearly 50% from last year, and they suggest that this is partly due to the increase in ownership of so-called prestige dogs such as Staffordshire bull terriers and Rottweilers, but mainly because of the lack of knowledge by owners of how to care for them appropriately. In particular campaigners are requesting for stricter laws to prosecute owners if the attack happens in a private place.

Homeopathic remedies have become increasingly popular as people look for alternative ways of treating ailments that conventional medicine has been unable to treat, feels more natural and / or have few or none of the unwanted side effects associated with some conventional medicines. In the UK, the increase in the use of homeopathic treatments has been noticeable; in other parts of the world such as India, homeopathy has been a long established tradition with junior doctors being given the option to specialise in homeopathy.

Blue Cross lends a paw for Royal Parks Half Marathon

Britain's pet charity, The Blue Cross, is delighted to announce that it will be one of the principle charities involved in the first Half Marathon through central London on Sunday 12 October 2008. The charity is encouraging animal lovers across the country to sign up for a Blue Cross running place to help needy pets.

Lost pet posters – a cautionary tale

If you lose your pet or find a lost pet, there are a number of things you can do, you could post a message on the lost and found pets section of My Pet Friends’ pet forum, you could place adverts in your local paper or pet shops, contact local pet refuge / charities or you could stick up posters on lampposts in your local area. But, as Joy Tracey from Denton, Greater Manchester found when she tried to reunite a ginger tom Copper with his owners – be careful, displaying posters could get you a hefty fine from the local council.

Ex-England Rugby Captain’s son mauled by dog

Six year old Enzo - son of ex-England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio is recovering after being mauled by the family's pet dog last week. The attack by their pet dog Como – a Rhodesian Ridgeback - left Enzo with facial wounds.
