Cats Protection has today released a list of top words cat owners use to describe their feline friends, which includes some you won’t find in the dictionary!
-
Words such as ‘fur-ific’, ‘moggi-licious’ and ‘cat-alicious’ appeared alongside the more conventional ‘affectionate’, ‘cheeky’ and ‘friendly’ in a survey of 1,000 cat owners who were asked to sum up their cat’s character in one word, with ‘loving’ topping the poll.
-
The charity published the fun findings to coincide with Valentines Day to show what an important part cats play in the lives of their owners and to encourage more people to adopt a cat.
-
The results have gained celebrity support from comedian Ricky Gervais who described his cat Ollie as ‘surly’, stand-up comic Alexei Sayle who came up with ‘wilf-ful’ to describe his cat Wilf M’Banga and CBeebies presenter Sarah-Jane Honeywell who described her three cats - Aslan, Zazel and Gandalf - as ‘dreamy’, ‘passionate’ and ‘fluffy’.
-
Kate Bunting, Cats Protection’s PR Manager said: “The sheer variety of words we received shows how each cat brings its own distinctive character to a home, providing love, companionship, fun and laughter. Cats are popular pets for all age groups and we hope more people will consider offering an unwanted cat a home as these findings show what fantastic companions they are.”
-
Cats Protection has around 7,000 cats in care at any one time. To adopt a cat from the charity, please call the national Helpline on 03000 12 12 12 or log on to www.cats.org.uk for details of your local branch or centre.
