People for the ethical treatment of animals (Peta) have offered £1000 reward to bring a serial cat killer to justice. 28 caps have been killed since April as a result of antifreeze poisoning.
-
Cats are attracted to the sweet taste of the chemical present in antifreeze, but ingestion of the liquid leads them to die an agonising death from kidney failure.
--
The cats are being targeted in the Weston-super-mare & Bridgewater area of the country and cat owners have been urged to keep a watchful eye on their animals.
-
Psychologists and criminologists suggest that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals often go on to commit violent acts against fellow humans. However, the RSPCA are also investigating whether the antifreeze might have leaked from an industrial source.
-
Anyone with information about the killings is asked to contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999
