With summertime in full swing, and although the sun hasn’t shined as much as we may have liked, it is important to remember that your pets can feel the heat just as much as you can. In this humid weather, dog owners in particular need to make sure that their canine companions are not left in cars for long periods of time with no access to ventilation or cool water.
-
Whilst temperatures remain warm, the interior of a car is a potential hazard for dogs, as the windows and metal chassis turn your car into a mobile greenhouse. Each year the news reports that more careless owners have unwittingly caused harm to their pets by leaving them in the car whilst they have gone shopping, and come back to find their loved ones have passed away from dehydration. This could have been easily avoided if a little more care had been taken on the owner’s part.

Mark Effenberg, Healthy Pets chief executive, commented “At Healthy Pets, we always advise dog owners to never leave their pets alone in a car in hot weather. The risks involved are simply not worth it when you consider that your pet could be in danger from overheating if left trapped in your car.
-
“For this reason, I ask every dog owner to consider the needs of their pets and make sure they are never left shut in a car for any period of time while temperatures remain warm in the summer months.”
