Slum dwellers are objecting to the word 'dog' in the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' and have attacked a cinema hall in protest.
-
Protesters tore down posters and ransacked a movie theatre showing the rags-to- riches tale of a Mumbai slum dweller.
-
Hundreds of slum dwellers shouted slogans saying the film's title was humiliating and must be changed for the protests to end.
-
The films writer indicates that he just made up the word and did not mean to cause offence to anyone. However, in Asian culture, where dogs are often roaming free and carry rabies, they considered to be dirty animals and to call or refer to someone as a dog is highly offensive.
-
The case is being heard in a court in February.
