cats_protection_logo.jpgMetropolitan Police Officer, Stephen Rodgers, will race across the city dressed as DangerMouse to raise money for moggies at Cats Protection in this year’s Flora London Marathon. Stephen, from Bedfordshire, will be attempting to win a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest cartoon character to complete a marathon, when he takes to the 26-mile course on 26 April 2009.

Although this is Stephen’s fourth marathon, he must complete the run in less than four hours to secure the record. Stephen says training in a latex suit is going to be tough, but the ‘under-cover agent’ appears to have it all under control. “I plan to do the majority of my training after dark so as not to attract too much attention!” He explained.
-

Stephen is one mouse that has always kept a watchful eye on the cats. He used to volunteer for Cats Protection by carrying out home visits on behalf of the charity in his spare time. “Unfortunately I am no longer able to commit the time needed to do this but I did enjoy it very much,” he said. “My wife and I love cats and we are aware of the great work Cats Protection does.”
-

Julie Sharp, Events Organiser, said: “We are so grateful for the support and hard work put in by Stephen. His efforts will make such a difference to the work of the charity and we will be cheering him on every step of the way!”

Anyone wishing to sponsor Stephen can do so at www.justgiving.co.uk/dangermouse09. For details about other runners who are raising money for the charity please visit Cats Protection’s website www.cats.org.uk
