vets.jpgInnovation, dedicated staff, excellent consumer interaction and community involvement are some of the outstanding qualities evident in the pet industry today, according to the judges of the Pet Industry Awards. The judges’ comments were inspired by the fantastic nominations received from pet care businesses across the country.

And, in further breaking news, the board of the Pet Care Trust has chosen Margaret Renton-Ferris as the winner of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award.
-
Margaret Renton-Ferris
Margaret was chosen in recognition of her tireless work over 60 years on behalf of the pet industry.
-
Margaret moved to Hythe in Kent in 1967 to take charge of the local quarantine kennels, and was soon running an open-all-hours pet shop and had set up a grooming parlour next door.
-
She was the first female member of the precursor of the Pet Care Trust – the Pet Trade Association. She was the primary instigator of the education programme, which has become the cornerstone of the Trust’s work and was tutoring for the Trust until 2007. Margaret also worked as editor of Pet Business World for many years.
-
‘I am thrilled to have been chosen for the Lifetime Achievement Award, and feel it should be shared by the many people who helped me over the last 60 years in the pet business,’ said Margaret. ‘There were many people involved in making the pet industry more respectable. I’ve had a lot of luck in my life… I’ve never been bored and I’ve enjoyed it all.’
