This annual event, dedicated to educating rabbit-owners on the best ways to look after their furry friends, is back with some exciting events planned up and down the country. TV vet Matt Brash, star of ITV's "Zoo Vet At Large", urges rabbit owners to hop along to their vets, especially because 3 in 4 rabbits suffer from dental problems due to poor diet.
-
Few of us enjoy a trip to the dentists, but pet rabbits have a particularly tough time in the chair. Those playful hop-a-longs have long been the nation's third favourite pet after the staples of cats and dogs, but sadly we're not looking after them as well as we could. According to the latest figures 8 out of 10 owners don't put their bunnies on the correct diet. As a result 3 out of 4 rabbits seen by vets are diagnosed with dental problems, which cause pain, distress and can even prove fatal.
-
Obviously this is done completely by accident, but it's really important if you are the proud owner of a pet rabbit that you know which foods are best for them in the long term. The good news is that next week is Burgess National Rabbit Week, which is dedicated to educating bunny lovers across the nation on how to properly care for their long-eared friends. Free rabbit dental checks will be available at veterinary surgeries across the country, enabling you to get some helpful advice on looking after your furry little friend.
-
Last year over 10,000 rabbits received free health checks from vets across the UK and it's hoped this year even more of our cotton-tailed companions will receive some much needed TLC for free. The week culminates at the Excel Small Animal Show in Harrogate on the 26th and 27th of January 2008. It is the largest rabbit show in the UK, and needless to say if you're a lover of all things cute and fluffy this is one event definitely not to be missed.
