 The British Horse Society is encouraging riders and carriage drivers throughout the UK to hold an equestrian event to mark BHS Access Week (May 20-30)

The Society’s Access Week is a time for BHS staff, volunteers and members to hold events to raise awareness of equestrian access issues. There are many ways to get involved, with local bridleways groups and BHS committees running various activities throughout the ten days. National events are promoted on the BHS website, www.bhs.org.uk.

A popular option for those wishing to raise funds for the Access Fighting Fund is the BHS Ride for Access scheme – now into its fourth year. A fun, sociable way of raising money for the BHS, and getting together with other riders in your area, Rides for Access is a great opportunity for riders to enjoy current routes and preserve equestrian routes for the future. A Ride for Access pack is available from the BHS which contains everything you require to organise and publicise your event.

This year, a series of challenges will feature on the EMAGIN website (www.emagin.org). They will provide a test your knowledge of equestrian access, get you out and about in your local area and provide a great opportunity to have fun with friends and family. Visit the site for details of the challenges and the prizes to be won.

Access Week also features the launch of The Cotswolds On Horseback, the first, On Horseback publication to feature additional free route supplements on www.emagin.org. The print publication features eight routes suitable for riders, walkers and cyclists in the Cotswolds, with more than 20 additional routes made available online. EMAGIN also features a searchable directory of local businesses and services and printable route maps.
