-
Those joining the ranks of the equestrian greats were the late Count Robert Orssich, show jumper Malcolm Pyrah and Anneli Drummond-Hay, while Anneli’s famous thoroughbred Merely-a-Monarch took his place alongside other equestrian legends. Count Robert Orssich’s son and daughter attended the ceremony to receive his certificate.
-
The laureates were selected by a panel chaired by Patrick Print FBHS and comprised renowned female show jumper Liz Edgar, Olympic gold medal eventer Richard Meade, showing legend Robert Oliver, Para-Dressage star and Olympic gold medallist Lee Pearson and Horse & Hound Editor Lucy Higginson.
-
Members of the public can cast their votes to nominate equestrians and horses as laureates in the BHS Equestrian Hall of Fame. Suggestions should be emailed to

BHS Hall of Fame Citations:-
Count Robert Philip Levine Marija ORSSICH de Slavetich
-
The legendary Robert Orssich was the premier show producer of his day.  He produced and showed hacks and hunters and was well known for the standard of presentation of his horses.
-
Producer of the legendary hack Liberty Light and the heavyweight hunter Moonstone, Count Orssich is believed to be the only person to have won both the Hack and the Hunter Championships at White City in the same year.  Another hunter he produced – Harvest Moon – won at Royal Windsor.   He also won championships at the Royal International, Royal Windsor, Horse of the Year, City of Bath and Royal Counties shows.
-
Together with his friend, Geoffrey Cross, he was the instigator of the first Windsor Horse Show which started as a one day horse and dog show in 1942 to raise funds for the War effort.  Count Orssich was also President of Billy Smart’s circus for several years.
-
As a trainer, too, he achieved distinction, with the legendary rider Annie Davey benefiting from his tutelage.
-
Tragically, in October 1987 Count Orssich suffered severe injuries following a freak accident when helping to load a horse, injuries from which he was never to recover.  His record of achievement, however, could not be extinguished by this accident and he remains to this day one of equestrianism’s most distinguished forebears.

Malcolm Pyrah
 -
As a World, European, team and individual show jumping medallist between 1978 and 1988, Malcolm achieved an impressive array of international honours, representing Great Britain in more than 60 Nations Cups on more than 20 horses.  A member of the British Show Jumping team in 1967/1968, his Grand Prix wins include Rome, Calgary and Aachen.
-
Malcolm’s success goes beyond his own personal competition history.  As a renowned team manager his successes came during his tenure of the offices of Chef d’equipe for both Senior and Young Rider GB teams and team trainer for Great Britain between 1990 and 2000 (during which time Great Britain won both World and European medals).  Malcolm also held the post of Chairman of International affairs for Great Britain between 1996 and 2000.
-
An accredited BSJA coach, and trainer of many famous international show jumpers including Billy Twomey, Nick Skelton and Robert Whittaker, Malcolm’s dedication to equestrianism has been total.

Anneli Drummond-Hay
-
Anneli Drummond-Hay is the only rider to have competed at the very highest level in eventing, dressage and show jumping, winning a host of titles during her illustrious career.
-
At only 16 years old Anneli won the Pony Club European Championships, and is well remembered for her Burghley and Badminton wins on her famous horse Merely-a-Monarch, her place in the record books being assured by her winning Badminton by the largest margin in history.
-
Following this Anneli turned to show jumping with Merely-a-Monarch and another horse, Xanthos.  In 1963 she was a member of the winning Nations Cup teams at Rome and London and was leading lady rider at Rome and Geneva.  Her total Nations Cup appearances amounted to five between 1963 and 1970 four on Merely-a-Monarch and one on Xanthos.  Her winnings are too numerous to mention.  Just for once it is appropriate that we should resort to cliché and remark that Anneli Drummond-Hay is indeed a legend in her own lifetime.

Merely-a-Monarch
-
First inducted to the BHS Hall of Fame in 1995, Merely-a-Monarch was voted in a L’Annee Hippique World poll one of the best 50 horses of the last century and is well remembered for his prolific wins across the disciplines.
-
Partnered by owner, Anneli Drummond-Hay, he won the Burghley Horse Trials as a six year old in 1961 and, a year later, triumphed with a win at Badminton.
-
Sadly unsoundness stopped his eventing career and Merely-a-Monarch was then introduced to international show jumping where he was a regular member of the British team, winning a Silver medal at the 1976 European Championships.
-
The perfect “all rounder”, he was also able to turn his hooves later in life to a successful dressage career.
