horse_eating.jpgThe British Horse Society has secured a safe and knowledgeable new home for the first horse through its Assisted Rehoming Scheme.

The scheme, which was launched earlier this year, aims to match privately owned horses which need rehoming with owners looking for a new horse.

Due to a change in personal circumstances, Allie’s owner Emily was faced with the difficult decision of having to rehome him. After contacting the BHS for advice Emily decided to register Allie on to the scheme

Emily said: “I was really unsure what I was going to do with him but knew I couldn't keep him as after giving birth at the start of the year I was really short of both time and money.

“I knew I couldn't sell him as he was getting old and there was no guarantee as to where he would end up. Having had him for 11 years I wanted to make sure he had the best home possible. After speaking to his prospective rehomers for hours on the phone and sending lots of emails I decided it was the best decision to let Allie go to a new home. It was also very reassuring to know that the BHS had vetted and approved his new home.”

“After a long journey we arrived at his new home and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. Allie settled into his field and we left feeling 100 percent happy that he had some lovely new owners. I would recommend the BHS rehoming scheme to anyone in a similar position to myself and I couldn't be happier with how everything has turned out.”

The BHS has been informed that Allie is settling into his new home and getting to know his new field companions without any problems. His new owner, Mr Bentley said: “Through the scheme I found it really easy to find and rehome a suitable horse. If you love horses and can offer a kind and loving home you’ll find the BHS good people to deal with.”

Mark Weston, BHS Director of Access, Safety and Welfare said: “Hopefully this scheme will assist and benefit many other horse owners who find themselves in the situation of having to rehome a trusted friend like Allie.”
