dog in bag.jpgThe Animal Welfare Foundation’s annual Discussion Forum on Monday 16th May will debate consumer choice through welfare labelling of meat, including religious slaughter, as well as exotic animal welfare, a topic which was voted top welfare concern at last year’s Forum.
-

The Forum will hear:
-

• Defra Minister Lord Henley speaking on consumer choice in a session entitled ‘Welfare labelling: can I really be a welfare friendly shopper?’
• A presentation by Professor Bill Reilly, BVA Past President, entitled ‘To stun or not to stun - why shouldn’t the consumer know and choose?’ which will discuss the case for labelling meat from slaughter without stunning
• A session entitled ‘Organic – the high welfare choice?’
• A presentation on the animal welfare implications of the rapid growth in the popularity of reptiles as pets entitled ‘Snakes alive! Do reptiles lead a charmed life?’
• A discussion about ‘Chronic pain: when is enough, enough?’ which will look at clinical and ethical arguments about treatment choices
-

Find the full programme at http://www.bva-awf.org.uk/headlines/BVA_AWF_Discussion_Forum_2011.pdf. The event takes place at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
-

The Forum encourages lively debate about topical issues in animal welfare and brings together members of the veterinary profession, Parliamentarians and key bodies associated with animal welfare. The Forum uses the expertise of the audience to generate practical suggestions that will improve specific animal welfare issues with a view to influencing future BVA animal welfare policy.
