dog_kennels.jpgThe Pet Care Trust, the pet care education charity has put dogs and cats high on the agenda in the seminar room at this year’s Glee Petindex trade show at the Birmingham NEC. Speakers recruited by the Pet Care Trust include Professor Mike Herrtage, Dean of the University of Cambridge Veterinary School and Dr Vicki Adams, respected veterinary epidemiologist, late of the Animal Health Trust. They are addressing issues flagged by respondents to the Trust’s triennial State of the Sector Kennel and Cattery survey 2009.
-

The first of these is kennel cough – the bane of any kennel owner’s life if not managed properly. Professor Mike Herrtage, is speaking on the prevention and control of this highly contagious disease. You can meet him in the seminar room at 12.30-13.30 on Tuesday 22 September and afterwards in the Buyers’ Lounge.
-
Then Dr Vicki Adams will be discussing how to minimise stress for cats using pheromone therapy. Not just useful for cat owners, but any pet specialist working with cats, the seminar will look at how to keep cats happy, no matter what their environment. Dr Adams will be speaking from 13.30-14.30 and then taking to the stage once again to present the findings from the Trust’s State of the Sector Kennel and Cattery survey from 14.30-15.30.
-
Other big names on the Tuesday seminar line-up include:
• Bill Lambert, Bill Lambert, Health and Breeder Services Manager for The Kennel Club, 10.30-11.30. Bill will be debating the hot topic: Pedigree dogs – their health in our hands. As a long-term owner and breeder of Bull Terriers and a judge at championship level, it is safe to say his knowledge and experience within the dog world has made him an all round expert on dogs.
• Dr Roger Mugford will be discussing products and services for better behaviour, 09.30-10.30. Dr Roger Mugford is Britain’s leading animal psychologist and as Managing Director of the Company of Animals has developed accessories designed to restrain or improve the behaviour of dogs.
-
The kennel cough, pheromone therapy and behaviour products seminars (and others) come with the opportunity to gain continuous professional development points (CPD), if you already hold an industry recognised qualification at level 2 or above. The Pet Care Trust has introduced CPD certification as an option for those wanting to display to their customers how they’re keeping up-to-date with their knowledge. For £5 you will receive a certificate of attendance which will accredit hours (regardless of total numbers attended) and subject area covered.
