Stunning photography featuring a cast of Casper, Mogly, Harry, Sooty and Sweep has swept the board in Cat Protection’s 2008 Photography Competition with an image of Casper taking the crown.
-
The overall winning image was taken by amateur photographer Stephen McBride and stars Casper with a supporting role by his Dad. Stephen also won a second category in the competition.
-
Casper lives a nomadic lifestyle in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, where he is a regular visitor to Stephen and his Dad. Stephen said: “Dad spends much of his time at home and always welcomes Casper in to our house, giving him some TLC, just as Casper always seems very contented sitting on Dad’s lap.”
-
“Casper lives amongst the neighbourhood, preferring to choose with whom and where he spends his time. We took him to the Vet to get him neutered a while ago and he seems happy to share my Dad with Harry our tabby cat.”
-
Research has shown that the company of cats can help older people act and feel younger and better about themselves. The company of cats can reduce feelings of loneliness and also give owners a purpose in life, aiding relaxation and stress reduction.
Debbie Holt, Design Services Manager at Cats Protection, said: “This picture, with Casper and Dad relaxing together, sums up the special relationship between man and his cat companion.”
-
“We had over 700 entries this year, so it’s clear that not only are we a nation of cat lovers but a nation of budding photographers too.”
The entries were judged by Garry McNamara, columnist for Amateur Photographer magazine and Cat Protection’s Chairman Heather McCann.
-
The competition was split into four categories with Stephen’s image for My Feline Friend taking the overall prize and his action shot of Harry winning the In action or Inaction category. Perfect Portrait was awarded to Christopher Small for his portrait of tabby Mogly and Chris Humphreys’ picture of Sooty and Sweep won the Animal Magic category.
