vets.jpgA surprising number of Brits are more likely to trust their vet’s advice above that of other health practitioners such as GPs, dentists and opticians, according to new research. The younger generation are the least trusting in their human healthcare providers with a resounding majority of those surveyed in the 16 to 24 age group saying they are most likely to trust their vet’s advice over their doctor’s.
 -
Nationally, nearly four out of ten pet owners put more faith in pet physicians than they do in human ones, rising to a whopping 7 in 10 in some parts of the country according to the research by animal insurance specialist, Petplan.
  -
The research shows that despite the current economic downturn, it isn’t cost that primarily determines someone’s choice of vet. As well as the vet’s manner, how friendly their staff are, and recommendation from family and friends an owners choice of vet also depends on how much the pet likes them.
  -
The findings come in advance of the 2009 Petplan Veterinary Awards, known at the Vet Oscars, which will acknowledge the sterling work of veterinary professionals and practices that care for the nation’s pets at a glittering awards ceremony in April.
  -
Simon Wheeler, head of marketing for Petplan, said: “The survey results show that pet owners are now recognising the important work that vets do. Vets used to be very much the unsung heroes of the pet world but this year we have received a record number of nominations for our vet awards.”
