ben dog.jpgA record number of groomers and visitors are expected at this year’s British Dog Grooming Championship, being held on Sunday 18th October 2009 at the newly refurbished Kennel Club Building at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.
-

This year’s show promises to be better than ever with a host of demonstrations, seminars, stalls and competitions as well as the all-important Groomer of the Year title up for grabs. The championship is open to all levels of groomers, from the newcomer and student groomer through to the experienced and advanced groomer who may already have several awards under their belts. To enter this year’s competition, visit www.petcare.org.uk to download an entry form.
-

The very first Junior Groomer competition is launched this year – open to youngsters aged 10-16 who will be judged on their dexterity and artistic flair in grooming, with £300 for the winner.
-

Judges Mary Ng, Jenny Hale, Anita Bax and Natasja Hoekman will be looking for the best handstripped, clipped and scissored dogs in the various categories. Once again Groomers Ltd will be sponsoring the event, providing £1,500 in total prize money to the overall winner. Goodie bags will be given to every competitor containing gifts from such companies as Groomers Ltd, Royal Canin and Aesculap.
-

Two new awards are being introduced this year, commemorating two highly regarded members who sadly died last year. The Richard Barker Award will go to the Poodle Class winner and the Colin Angus Award will act as a congeniality prize – going to the person the judges feel has cared for their dog the most during the day. This award will be presented by celebrity Alex Best, ex-wife of the late footballer George Best and friend of the late Colin Angus.
-

Throughout the day there will be demonstrations from Groom Team England and Wood Green Animal Shelter who will be showing you how to groom different breeds. Visit the seminar room to hear Claire Guest, Chief Executive of Cancer and Biodetection Dogs, describe the training her dogs undergo and what the cancer-sniffing dogs can achieve. Don’t miss Darren Freer, expert dog behaviourist who will be discussing the concept of dog whispering, looking at how to see the world through a dog’s eyes and how to manage your pet’s behaviour. The ‘Ask the Expert’ Team will also be on hand throughout the day to offer individual advice and tips to improve your grooming performance.
-

Visitors will have a day to remember, with live competitions and a great shopping experience – everything you need for you, your dog, and your business, all under one roof!
-
