The Mayflower Sanctuary of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, has won a valuable £500 donation from the UK’s favourite pet insurance provider, Petplan.

Since 2003, the Mayflower Dog and Cat Sanctuary annually rescues and rehomes over 400 dogs and 90 cats, and is a registered charity dedicated to dog and cat rescue for the Doncaster and South Yorkshire areas.

“We are absolutely elated to have won £500 from Petplan,” says Jenny Foxall Lord, Manager of the Mayflower Sanctuary. "We really appreciate the generosity, as it couldn’t have come at a better time; with all the recent snow and freezing temperatures our store room caved in and caused damaged to our iron roof and framework. It’s unfortunate because that’s where all the food, blankets and equipment are kept, so the money will go towards fixing and restoring the storage room.”

Petplan works with more re-homing charities than any other insurer to help fund the care of thousands of homeless cats and dogs.  The company offers four weeks free insurance to every owner adopting pets through the shelters it supports and also offers free insurance vouchers to visitors and supporters of the charities. Each month a prize draw is held from all the insurance vouchers issued and one charity benefits from the prize fund.
