As pet lovers, we like to be able to spend as much time as possible with our loved ones. For some lucky owners, this can include taking their pet into work with them. The benefits of doing this are numerous, and not only will you be able to look after them during your working hours, but they will also benefit from being in a more sociable environment than they would I they were left alone at home by themselves.

Another benefit of bringing your pet into work – and by pet we are talking on the whole about a dog – is the therapeutic affect they have on stress levels. Dogs are a great stress reducer and both you and your fellow workers will appreciate just what great companions they can be when the going gets tough. It is scientifically proved that dogs can reduce blood pressure and the risk of worry about meeting deadlines for projects and your workload, making you more productive and a happier worker.

It is for this reason that many companies are allowing owners to bring their pets into work, and as such more and more people are finding this a popular and welcome move. Here are a few tips which you can incorporate if you are planning on doing this yourself…
1. Make sure that your dog has been trained to stay under your control. The last thing you need is your pooch running rampage around the office, causing disruption, and a properly socialized pet is one that is both friendly to strangers, well behaved and obedient.
2. Remember to exercise them properly during breaks or at lunch. Being stuck in an office all day can be a boring experience for some dogs if they are just left alone for hours on end while you work, so remember to take them out for walks or play with them whenever you have the opportunity to do so.
3. Make sure you bring food and toys for them to eat and play with during the day. You may also consider bringing a blanket for them to sleep on and a brush to groom them with.
4. Make sure your dog is with you at all times. If you work by yourself in an office, then this will be no problem, but in an open-plan environment you do not want your dog to just wander around freely, as this can cause disruption to your fellow workers.
