dog_on_setee.jpgThe first time you bring home a new pet will be one that you will both remember forever – your new pet will be both nervous and excited by its new surroundings, and you will have to go to great lengths to ensure it is both happy and comfortable in its new settings.
-
It is important to remember just how nervous your new puppy or kitten is likely to be, and you should not push them into a room that they would be naturally apprehensive of at first. You should take special care to make any potential hazards or escape routes’ are sealed off or away from harm. Puppies and kittens are naturally inquisitive creatures, so keep an eye out for them whilst they explore and remove any dangers around them.
-

If there are young children in the house they should be educated to respect the new arrivals, and it is highly important that you teach them the correct way to behave around a pet. Small children especially can mistake them for toys, and they will need to be shown both how to play with them, how to handle them and when to leave them alone to sleep or rest.
-
You will need to adjust your daily routine to suit your new pet, including allocating periods of the day in which you can take them out for walks if they happen to be new puppies. If you already own a pet, then be extra careful when leaving the two new friends alone in the same room together without supervision. Gradual introduction is the best way forward here.
-
Above all else, patience is the key here, and you should never rush your new bundle of joy into something which they would feel uncomfortable with, never shouting at them and rewarding them for good behavior. With plenty of love and patience, you will find happiness for both yourself and your new pet for many wonderful years to come.
