Some dogs tend to bark more than others, and depending upon your situation this can be a hindrance at best if they bark needlessly. You should be careful to correct any barking problems as early in your pet’s life as possible. If they get into the habit of barking at strangers or certain noises this can stay with them for the rest of their life, and be the cause of much stress.

You should correct your dog and make sure they know when not to bark. Do this by telling them off with a firm ‘No!’ whenever they start to bark. If this doesn’t work, then try tapping them on the nose to show that you are not happy with them. You can also try telling them to sit, which also has the effect of subduing any wayward barking.
-
Other tricks that you can employ are spray guns filled with water, and physically removing your dog away from the cause of their barking and placing them in a room until they have stopped. This should only be used as a last resort though on extremely stubborn dogs. You can also purchase special collars that squirt a fragrance when your dog barks, but the jury is still out as to how effective they are.

It is important to remember that dogs like barking – it is a natural reaction for them – and you should not try and prevent them from barking entirely. You will face an uphill battle if you do not want your dog to bark at all, and there are a variety of reasons a dog will bark. Too much barking can be troublesome though, and it is in those circumstances when you should take action to stop them from barking for no reason.
