...And when we talk about the love of your life, we know that just like our owners, this will most probably be your pet. As pets, we give you unconditional love, so it’s no surprise that many pet owners feel this way, but some surveys carried out strongly support this point suggesting that some pet owners may love their pets more than their partners.
-
It’s a bit of light hearted fun for many, but for some splashing out on lavish gifts for their pets is a must (some of those gifts look gorgeous, its a pity we are only ‘virtual’ pets so can’t enjoy them too). The My Pet Friends team have seen toys shaped like hearts, biscuits and foods shaped into hearts, as well as outfits and even cat and dog friendly chocolates. And it is the latter that we wanted to explore in this months blog.

Pets new year resolutions |

Happy New year! Have you made any resolutions? Kitty makes resolutions all the time, Teddy doesn’t like to plan too much – and despite these differences, we still get on (you’d think we’d fight like cat and dog with those differences – lol). But many of you can’t escape the urge and pressure to make New Years resolutions at this time of year.
-
It’s actually a good time – the busy Christmas period is out of the way and there are no Hallmark events to get in the way of you falling off the wagon (we’re thinking most of you are on diets or swearing to reduce your alcohol intake – we know you so well).

Why are pets featured on Christmas cards? |

Now, we are not saying that it is a bad thing, any publicity is great publicity, but some outfits that cats and dogs are made to wear in those images on Christmas cards are hilarious – and yes, our owners have been known to put us in some ourselves (using Photoshop of course). But are these outfits just for vanity, or do they have a more practical purpose?
-
Cats don’t take too well to being put in outfits – Kitty can confirm this. A collar is fine, but anything else will force her to claw it off in disgust. Most cats will view anything that goes on their head or their body as a toy anyway and will want to play with it more than wear it. Whereas dogs seem to love it; but a coat or a t-shirt can actually have a practical purpose and looks great too. Teddy needs convincing, he’s a bit ‘old school’ when it comes to pet clothing, but he agrees that a good jacket to keep a dog warm and dry when out for a walk is perfectly acceptable. In fact, looking at pet shops across the My Pet Friends site, it appears that there is so much more available for dog owners – dog collars, dog coats and dog clothing, to name but a few of the many things on offer.

OK, so you’ve noticed we’ve been off the pet scene for a while and some of you have been asking where we we’ve been. Some thought we had fallen out with each other, others thought we were erased from the My Pet Friends’ server (remember: we’re not real, we’re ‘virtual’ pets), others thought we were hibernating over the winter period. Well, the celebrity gossip writers can finally rest their fingers as we’re back by popular demand with our brand new, furry, huggable, tickle-our-belly new blog – we hope you enjoy it.

Well, boo to the Post Office is all we can say - after Months of planning and and preperation the My Pet Friends team have had to delay the UK launch for yet another week due to further strikes. So pet owners up and down the country will have to wait a few more weeks before they can read information and tips for pet owners, read pet news, find pet shops and pet services.

After a summer of fun with our owner’s nieces and nephews – rolling about in the garden and playing hide and seek – they’re back to school and we’re back to the daily grind. It’s already been a week since they went back and we do miss them – oh well, we’ll still see them at the weekends and they keep in touch through our blog, so that’s something to look forward to.

Pets, parks, picnics & Oscar the donkey |

What a beautiful day – and about time too – just what we all needed after what seems like a lifetime of rain and generally miserable weather. So, seeing as its a Bank Holiday weekend and we needed a well earned break from My Pet Friends with its fantastic range of pet shops, pet accessories and listings in the pet directory, we thought we’d take the opportunity to visit Oscar. Oscar’s a rescued donkey that lives in the Birmingham donkey sanctuary. Our owners are mad about donkeys so adopted him last year. He lives with 19 of his friends and was really happy to see us – we could tell because he gave us a flick of his ears and swished his tail – probably because we had ginger biscuits and polo mints for him.

Pet care breakthrough - dog knee replacement |

What will they think of next – the first dog knee replacement took place this week. A seven year old bearded collie called Grace from Tyneside has undergone the UK’s first canine knee replacement operation. Grace was finding it difficult to walk because of arthritis that caused her constant pain. The specialist veterinary practice in Solihull, in the west midlands, carried out the surgery and grace is expected to make a full recovery and be able to walk again.

Missing pets - micro chip your pet |

Thank god for micro chipping technology, where would we be without it? (Teddy: lost I guess). With all the talk of lost pets, pets being abducted or even stolen and some pets disappearing and then being found hundreds of miles away (see full story on my pet friends by clicking here), micro chipping technology is allowing us to keep close to our owners and most of all – safe. We’ve been micro chipped and at only a few pounds each that’s a great cost for knowing that if we’re ever parted from our owners, we can easily be reunited following a quick scan.

Exam grades - our pet hate |

The papers are full of the usual reports about A-levels and GCSEs becoming easier as the pass rate at Grade A increases once again this year. If you're a young person receiving your grades, these reports don't give you much praise for the hard work and effort that you have put into revising for your exams and simply make a mockery of the whole process.

Even though it’s wedding season, we haven’t been invited to any weddings this year – in fact, us poor pets never get invited (although seeing as we're virtual pets, we kinda wouldn’t have been invited anyway). However our owners were lucky enough to be invited to a few this year and have returned from the latest - their best friends wedding – clutching table decorations, stumbling over the collection of items taken as mementos and shamelessly drunk (Teddy: nothing new there then).
