kitty_in_tree.jpgHurrah, we’ve all made it through another harsh winter, and wasn’t it a hard one this year?  In fact, it’s still cold out, so we are worried we may jinx it for you by even talking about Spring.  But hey, we’re virtual pets so the seasons don’t really affect us too much (Kitty: miaaaow)

However, for many dog owners, the harsh winter has meant that you haven’t been able to enjoy a good walk with your dog, so now the sun is shining there’ll be no stopping you.  But don’t limit yourself to short walks down the road, be more adventurous and try other places too.  Dogs do like familiar surroundings, and mark their territory along regular routes, but they love going to new places and sniffing out all those new smells.
-

Here’s a few suggestions for varying your dog walks:
-

- drive to your local park for a walk (take towels with you and remember to put an old sheet on your back seat in case your dog gets a little muddy)
- if you are staying local, try going on different routes rather than the same route, and remember that even if you don’t feel like going for a walk, your dog may have been cooped up inside for hours, and this is the one time that they see and do something different.
- go for a walk through your town centre.  Sundays after the shops have closed is an ideal time, there won’t be many people around and you can do some window shopping too
- Many National Trust sites allow you to take your dog around the grounds or open spaces (check with the property first)
- drive to a friends and take your dog with you.  They can get to see you and your dog and you can go out for a walk after an indulgent cream tea or dinner.

If you can’t get out to walk your dog yourself, or you lead a busy life and your dog may be left for long hours at a time, consider using a pet walker such as pawfect pets

Pet tip of the month
Carly Richards, Brighton: if you have a horse, consider getting it micro chipped so if it is ever stolen or lost they can reunite them with you.
