Or should we say “why” you should insure your pet?
If you have pets, you’ll know just how important we are to you. The love and comfort pets like us provide you and your family cannot be measured or equated easily into a financial equivalent. But, if we become ill, vets costs can run into the thousands, and many owners who have not insured their pets have no choice but to pay the costs or consider the unthinkable. With one in three pets requiring treatment each year, we can’t stress the importance of considering pet insurance any stronger. |

Pets in schools – some call for ban |

Do you remember your school pets – a hamster, a goldfish, a guinea pig, or even a horse, a donkey or a goat? Well, recent calls by animal welfare organisations could see a ban to this practice in British primary schools. But is it a real case of cause for concern over the welfare of these animals, or have these people who are calling for a ban forgotten that what was good for us could also be good for our children.

Sixteen cat owners from across the UK are fe-line fantastic after learning that their cat has made the final of the forthcoming Rescue Cat Awards 2008, organised by the UK’s leading cat welfare charity, Cats Protection. The Awards, dubbed the “Feline Oscars” and sponsored by Purina PetCare, celebrate the real-life tales of survival, bravery and heroism in the cat world.

As food prices increase, people up and down the UK are choosing to keep a couple chickens, or more, in their own back gardens for a fresh supply of eggs – but they make great pets too. Whether you choose a designer, brightly coloured plastic coup or a more traditional wooden and chicken wire pen; chickens are really easy to keep and only require a small amount of space to run around in and a nice comfortable coup for a bed at night.

A new study suggests that parents could be putting their newborn child at risk of developing eczema if they own a cat and allow the cat near the baby. However, they also found that infants were not put at any additional risk.

A pensioner in Telford woke up to the sight of 3 inch wide paw prints on his car bonnet and numerous sightings of large cats in North Wales, and the South of England have been reported. But do these beasts exist and why are the reports on the rise?

According to research from insurance company More th>n, around 400,000 workers a year claim they can't go into work because their pet is sick. And this rises in the summer when workers want to make the most of the good weather.

Training for dog owners, not just dogs |

There have been calls for changes to the current laws on dog ownership as the number of dog attacks increase in the UK. According to the RSPCA, dog attacks were up by nearly 50% from last year, and they suggest that this is partly due to the increase in ownership of so-called prestige dogs such as Staffordshire bull terriers and Rottweilers, but mainly because of the lack of knowledge by owners of how to care for them appropriately. In particular campaigners are requesting for stricter laws to prosecute owners if the attack happens in a private place.
