Dog inherits $12 million and goes into hiding

A Maltese dog has been the victim of death threats in the United States since she inherited a staggering 12 million dollar inheritance fortune.

‘Trouble’ inherited the money when her owner – hotelier Leona Helmsley - passed away in August this year. Leona was the one of the richest women in the world, gaining a billion dollar fortune through her chain of hotel businesses. However, she came unstuck in the 1980’s when she was jailed for tax evasion.

RSPCA Pet Adoption Week 2007

The RSPCA launches its Pet Adoption Week – PAW today. A staggering 9,000 animals in the RSPCA's care are hoping for new homes during Pet Adoption Week which runs from Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 October 2007.

This follows our special 3 part report highlighting the UK’s growing interest in designer pets, where we outlined how people’s craving for designer lives has led to the increase in demand for designer pets. My Pet Friends strongly supports initiatives to re-home unwanted pets and always urges its readers to consider adopting a rescued pet or a pet that needs re-homing first when considering a new pet. In the modern West, that was frequently labeled the throw-away culture, the increasing interest in recycling may assist in ensuring that these pets – these lives – do not go to waste.

The toyger is a designer cat that has been designed and bred to resemble, well, a tiger (the clue is in the name). Recognised for registration only by The International Cat Association (www.tica-uk.org.uk) in the early 90’s it was only until this year that it has been classified as a new breed rather than a hybrid (a mix of more than one pedigree). Inspired by the work of Judy Sugden who developed the breed to raise awareness of conservation of tigers in the west, it has become the hot new so-called ‘designer pet’ of this year.
